Award Winners for Collectors Choice XI Announced

The St. Louis Artists’ Guild is proud to announce the prize-winning pieces for this year’s Collectors Choice fundraiser and exhibition.

First place is West Wind, a forged steel sculpture by Pat McCarty (Washington, MO). McCarty has been blacksmithing for twenty-three years, and is an instructor at the John C. Campbell Folk School.

Second place: In Memory of Lost Children (Where are you, Iphigenia?), a mixed-media painting by George Myles (Sappington, MO). A graduate of Kirkwood High School, Myles’ interests include industrial arts and design, metal work, painting, drawing, literature, and music.

Third place: Untitled Vessels, a pair of ceramic pieces by Bob Allen. A graduate of Illinois State University, Allan taught at St. Louis Community College Meramec, where he developed the school’s clay program. In addition, Allan has taught at Maryville University and Webster University. He has been very involved with the local arts community, serving on the board of the Craft Alliance in St. Louis and exhibiting widely. Allen is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles. 

The award-winning pieces were selected by Denise Schilling, a photography instructor at Fontbonne University and Southwestern Illinois College. She is currently an artist-in-residence in Photography at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild. Schilling is a photographer who uses a spontaneous, intuitive approach to explore line, form, and perception. She works with several photographic processes, including Van Dyke and litho prints. Schilling holds a BFA in Studio Art and Photography from Fontbonne University in St. Louis. Schilling has exhibited at Fontbonne University, Foundry Art Centre (St. Charles) and the Art Co-Op (St. Louis). Collectors Choice is an annual fundraiser at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild. At Collectors Choice, every ticket-holder receives one piece of original artwork valued at $250 or more. The main event is the Selection Party (May 20, 2012), where ticket-holders’ names are chosen at random. When a ticket-holder’s name is called, they can select one of the available pieces of artwork on display and take the piece home with them.
