Family of Teen Headed to Olympics Stops by Webster Gym Center

Sarah Finnegan, who trained at St. Louis Gym Centre, is one of three alternates on the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team. Her family visited the gym today before heading to London.

It was all smiles and well wishes Thursday at St. Louis Gym Centre (SLGC) for Sarah Finnegan, who is one of three alternates on the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Sarah, of Town and Country, trained at the gym in Webster Groves for five years. Sarah's parents and her three sisters stopped by the gym today before heading to London.

The young gymnasts training at the center had created posters and made up cards for the family to give to 15-year-old Sarah when they see her in London.

The gym posted the attached photo on its Facebook page with this post, "The Finnegan family visiting SLGC on their way to London! So exciting to see them! Go Team USA!!!"

Amy King, who was Sarah's coach at SLGC for three years told Patch she was extremely proud of Sarah's accomplishment.

"The odds of a gymnast going to the Olympics are slim to none, and it's always a dream," King said. "But I could tell by working with her she had it (the possibility) in her ability, in her mind and in her heart."

Opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games begin Friday.
