Hixson Holiday House Tour: The Buck Home

Each day this week, we highlight homes that will be in the 21st Annual Webster Holiday House Tour Dec. 2.

The house owned by Barb and Dave Buck at 124 South Elm Avenue is one of six historic homes visitors can walk through as part of Sunday's 21st Annual Webster Holiday House Tour. The event is sponsored by the Hixson Middle School PTO.

William E. Plant, owner of Plant Seed Company, built this Queen Anne style home in 1882.  Lockwood, Plant, Swon and Elm Avenues bound the family estate at that time. He built several of the other Queen Anne style homes in the area  to attract successful businessmen to the city.

The home suffered extensive damage from a fire in the mid-1990s. The owners, at that time, carefully restored the exterior of the home to its original look.

The Buck family purchased this home in 2008. They have recently updated the kitchen and master bathroom. The home is a blend of period features and updated living spaces. Beautifully restored hardware, transoms and millwork are among the highlights in this home. There are seven fireplaces, one of which Barb decorates every Christmas with antique ornaments and evening bags that belonged to her mother.
