Hixson Holiday House Tour: The Fetter Home
Each day this week, we highlight homes that will be in the 21st Annual Webster Holiday House Tour Dec. 2.
The house owned by Barb and Lee Fetter at 430 Oakwood Avenue is one of six historic homes visitors can walk through as part of Sunday's 21st Annual Webster Holiday House Tour. The event is sponsored by the Hixson Middle School PTO.
Built in 1905 for Kate and Stephen D. McCallum, this Colonial Revival was one of the earlier homes in Webster Park. This “subdivision” was advertised by the Webster Real Estate Company as “The Queen of the Suburbs” and attracted families of city business and professional men.
A previous owner extensively renovated the home in the early 2000s. The original millwork in the entry, pocket doors in the living room, brass hardware on windows and doors, four fireplaces and the butler’s pantry cabinetry in the breakfast room were all restored. The bow windows in the front two rooms, the stained glass windows and leaded glass cabinet doors in the living room are also original to the home.
Along with the renovation came a kitchen/hearth room addition as well as a beautiful deck, stone patio and garage. The master bathroom and walk-in closet were converted from a sleeping porch off the back of the home.
The Fetters have put their own touches on the home and enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren in this near perfect blend of old home charm and updated spaces.
