Men Tried Auto Theft by Tow Truck, Police Say
A Webster Groves man tried towing away a 2001 Subaru Outback in Spanish Lake, according to a police report.
St. Louis County Police said Webster Groves man tried to steal an SUV by towing it away Wednesday.
Leonard T. Ingram, 55, of the 100 block of Almentor Avenue in Webster Groves, was charged Thursday with attempted vehicle theft.
Charles Moore, 39, of Williamsville, IL also was charged Thursday with attempting to steal a vehicle.
St. Louis County Police reported that witnesses called regarding a car theft in progress in the 1700 block of Claudine Drive in Spanish Lake. When police arrived, they found a 2001 Subaru Outback pulled partially onto a tow truck bed.
Ingram was the tow truck driver and Moore was assisting him, police said. They admitted they had no authority to tow the Outback, according to the police report. The vehicle owner confirmed he had not asked for his SUV to be towed.
Bail was set at $7,500 for Ingram and $5,000 for Moore.
