News Near By: Kirkwood School Board Considers iPad Minis for Students
The board will vote on whether to put the tablets in the hands of hundreds of students this school year.

Hundreds of students in the Kirkwood School District could receive iPad Minis this school year depending on a vote tonight from the Kirkwood School Board, it was reported.
Dr. Chris Raeker, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the district, will ask the board to approve the first phase of a one-to-one student iPad proposal that will launch the roll out of the tablets to all students in the district. The board meets at 7 p.m. in the district's administrative center.
If the board approves Phase 1 of the proposal, the district would purchase 625 iPad Minis that would be given to students at the elementary through high school level as soon as possible, according to meeting materials. Approval would also allow for the purchase of 625 iPad cases and two iPad carts for a total cost of $213,875.
Students in third grade and above would be allowed to take the devices home. Younger students would have access to iPads through school carts.
The tablets would be given to students of teachers who are part of the district's Technology Leadership Group. The group has been exploring personal student iPads for some time. (SEE: iPads for Kirkwood Students: Officials Explore Possibility)
In her presentation to the board, Raeker outlines two scenarios to roll out iPads to all Kirkwood students in grades 2-12. One scenario would complete deployment of the tablets by August 2014. The other would complete deployment by August 2015.
