Readers Vote 2012: Where is the Best Bakery in St. Louis?

Soft, warm bread is the most essential food of humanity.Vote now for the best bread-makers in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

There is nothing like a piece of fresh, warm bread in the morning and St. Louis does not lack places to get quality bread.

From Sunset Hills-based St. Louis Bread Company (or Panera Bread, for you outsiders), to Webster Groves’ Breadsmith, just to name a few, St. Louisans turn to local bakeries when they want more than just plain, white wonder bread.

We need our readers’ help to find the best bakery in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Is there a place that makes croissants like no other? or perhaps scones or cupcakes?

Vote in our poll below for your absolute favorite bakery in St. Louis.

The voting period will take place from today until Aug. 17 at midnight. Winners will be announced on Aug. 24.

Cose Dolci and Free Range in Ferguson (along with Helfer's in Florissant) are outstanding and in North County. One would think Florissant Patch might promote the area's bakeries a bit more.

It is my understanding that the names listed were nominated by the general public, not chosen by Patch.

That would be correct, Jeff. The nomination period was open to the public for a couple of weeks. From those nominations, these are the nominees that can now be voted on.

Charlene, far as I can see there are only two ways the Patch can do this. One, the public nominates the business, as it was done here, or two the Patch does. If the Patch does it, I think it could be viewed as bias. I have a lot of respect for all on the list, I think Helfers does a great job, I have enjoyed several things from there. If I need a strawberry filled cake, guess where I get it. I really think the only way to make this better would be to have specific polls, but then you would have 10 different categories for bakery. I must say though, the Patch is committed to small businesses in North County and all of St. Louis and I commend them for the fantastic job that they do and the support they give to us all. Everyone on this list should get an award for being able to survive and put food on their tables in this economy. They are all the best at what they do.

De.lish is conviently located on Florissant Road and St. Catherine, just right up the street from a lot of us. The staff is always friendly and accomadating. The food is fabulous. I recently celebrated my birthday with an entire chocolate explosion cheesecake. Yes I shared. I had quiche for breakfast on my birthday and i received a gift certificate from my granddaughter. My husband and I used that gift certificate last night. I should have gone with my favorite Harvest Salad but opted for the sliders, I was not disappointed, yum!

4 seasons reminds me of Cose Dolci, one of the two gems in Ferguson. Too bad my favorite bakeries are not the kind to shill for votes online.
