Second Man Charged in Series of Parking Lot Robberies
Shrewsbury Police said they believe they have all suspects in the Mackenzie Pointe Dierberg's robbery.
Curtis Edwards, 26, of the 2600 block of Rottingdean in North County, was charged Thursday with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action in the May 11 robbery in the Mehlville Kmart parking lot.
St. Louis County Police said in a report that Edwards and Mar’Kele D. Prince, 17, of the 4500 block of Rosewood Avenue in Jennings, pulled up in a Chevy Impala as a woman was retrieving something from her car in Kmart's parking lot. Edwards displayed a semi-automatic handgun and stole her purse, according to the report.
Police said they believe that the Kmart and subsequent parking lot robberies were related. In each robbery, at least two men pulled up in a car, displayed a semi-automatic handgun and took a woman’s purse. The robberies include:
- May 11 Kmart parking lot at 3901 Lemay Ferry Road in Mehlville;
- May 12 Kohl’s parking lot at 9701 Watson Road in Crestwood;
- May 15 Mackenzie Pointe Dierbergs parking lot, 7233 Watson Road in Shrewsbury;
- May 30 Shane Co. parking lot, 10 Promenade Court.
Prince was charged last week with two counts of robbery and one count of armed criminal action in the Mehlville and Crestwood purse snatchings.
Crestwood and Shrewsbury Police said they have arrested three suspects in connection with the robberies and warrants are pending.
A third man, not yet charged, is a suspect in the armed robbery at Shane Co. on May 28. He is in custody.
Brentwood Police Sgt. Jim McIntyre said Thursday afternoon that the robbery at Shane Co. has been presented together with the attempted robbery at the Brentwood Promenade on May 23.
"It's now in the prosecuting attorney's hands," McIntyre said. "It's under review. We're hoping to hear back today or (Friday), but it could be as late as next week."
