Webster Groves Recognized as Missouri's 'Creative Community' for 2013
The annual honor was handed out by the Missouri Arts Council in recognition of the city's public arts programs and education.
The Missouri Arts Council has named Webster Groves as the state's "Creative Community" for 2013 for its promotion of the arts and art education.
In an announcement about the yearly honor and other art awards on their website, the organization cited the 116-year-old suburbs public art, galleries, arts education organizations, festivals and performing groups such as the Opera Theatre of St. Louis as its qualifications for the honor.
The award will be presented today, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, to Mayor Gerry Welch during a ceremony at the state capitol. Welch told the paper that the arts enrich the community and are important part of the city's economic base.
