Westbound Interstate 44 Entrance Ramp at Elm Avenue to Close July 23
MoDOT crews will be replacing a deteriorated retaining wall to ensure motorist safety. This is the second I-44 ramp closure in Webster Groves in recent months.
If you live or work in the Webster Groves area, be prepared for yet another detour on Interstate 44.
The westbound I-44 entrance ramp at Elm Avenue will close after 9 a.m. on Monday, July 23. It will remain closed until late August. The Missouri Department of Transportation will be replacing a retaining wall near the ramp that has deteriorated.
You can access westbound I-44 by detouring to Big Bend Boulevard. There will be changeable message boards alerting motorists of the detour. Motorists can also use Watson Road to access westbound I-44.
This is the second I-44 ramp closure in Webster Groves since April. That's when work began on the Murdoch Avenue Bridge, which includes the closure of the ramp onto westbound I-44 from Big Bend Boulevard via Murdoch Avenue. That project is expected to be completed in October.
UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect the fact that motorists can't access the westbound ramp to ramp onto westbound I-44 from Big Bend Boulevard via Murdoch Avenue. They can, however, access westbound I-44 from Laclede Station Road via Murdoch Avenue.
Also, Paul Verheyen, Webster Groves public works director, told Patch that toward the end of the project, the ramp to westbound I-44 via Murdoch Avenue from Big Bend and Laclede Station will be closed during the overnight hours for awhile for paving. He said does not have exact dates and times of those closures.
