You nominated and voted: Sheila Gurley is Patch's Person of the Year for Webster Groves in 2012.
Sheila, head of school at The College School in Webster Groves, received the following recommendation from the Patch reader who nominated her:
"Her work gained Webster Groves national recognition in 2012, when The College School was one of only 12 independent schools nationwide to be named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education for its sustainability initiatives and curriculum. Sheila and Tim Wood, sustainability coordinator, presented a "Green School Primer" at the National Private School Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in late September. The school was one of only three schools in the U.S. to be invited to present. Sheila will be stepping down as Head of School at The College School in 2013 after 25 years of service to the institution (14 years as an elementary teacher and 10 years as an administrator) as the school enters its 50th anniversary year."
Sheila is also a member of the Miriam Schools Advisory Board. Congratulations and best wishes to Sheila!
A special nod to the other nominee, Geoffrey G. George, a former Rock Hill alderman who was nominated based on his service and involvement in the community. Find out more about Geoffrey here.
