My daughter Julia came to live with me a year ago for school. It isn't easy for me to raise someone who is practically my 8-year-old clone, but that is exactly what I find I am doing with Julia. Through our judo and soccer practices, reading, writing and arithmetic, Girl Scouts, and Japanese language classes, we occasionally have a conversation that connects us both in a sometimes deep and usually humorous way. Hopefully, you will be as entertained as we are.
That Place with the Dragon
Julia and her mom went to dinner and saw her teacher at the same restaurant with his family. She is waiting with her class before a school choir performance when Dad finds her to encourage her.
Julia: Daddy, do you know that place with the dragon?
Daddy: Uh, yes, you mean Llywelyn’s?
Julia: Um, yea! Guess what! Mommy and I were eating dinner there, and I saw Mr. Woodfin!
Daddy: Wow! That’s amazing! I didn’t know that teachers ate food, too. They must go to restaurants and everything!
(pause)
Julia: Sigh.
