My daughter Julia came to live with me a year ago for school. It isn't easy for me to raise someone who is practically my 8-year-old clone, but that is exactly what I find I am doing with Julia. Through our judo and soccer practices, reading, writing and arithmetic, Girl Scouts, and Japanese language classes, we occasionally have a conversation that connects us both in a sometimes deep and usually humorous way. Hopefully, you will be as entertained as we are.
Want to trade?
Usually after judo practice Julia is quick to convince Daddy that a stop at the ice cream stand down the street is just what the both of them need. At the stand, Julia insists upon having a sugar cone. Daddy receives the ice cream cones, hands one to Julia and drives away in his car. About 10 minutes later, Daddy notices that he’s biting into sugar cone…
Julia: Oh, man, I thought I ordered a sugar cone. They only gave us those cake cones!
Daddy: Uh-oh…
Julia: What?
Daddy: Um, I think I accidentally ate your sugar cone.
Julia: What!?!
Daddy: I know. It’s a bummer. Want to trade?
(Julia has half her ice cream left, and Daddy is holding a half-eaten cone.)
Julia: You don’t have anything left!
Daddy: I’ll still trade.
Julia: Sigh! (disgusted) How about next time?
