It's rare to see a family owned business stick around for so long. I've been eating there since I was a baby and still eat there all the time!
Hacienda Mexican Restaurant
314-962-7100
The Hacienda Mexican restaurant is huge and colorful and has more meeting rooms, bars, dining areas and patios than most hotels. The reason for such space is that at its conception it incorporated three restaurants that were located on its current space. The food is reasonably priced, delicious, and served with a smile. Terry Deckert, who is the general manager, says that people come to the restaurant sometimes more than once a day because of the great prices and food.

Hacienda reminds me of the line by Yogi Berra: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." The beautiful landscaping and the constantly expanding patio are truly inviting -- and the invitation is often beyond the capacity of the parking lot and neighbors' patience as signs at other businesses will attest. The food is exactly what Americans are conditioned to expect from a Mexican restaurant -- heavy, familiar burritos, enchiladas and tacos with the side of refrieds and rice. I'm not sure anybody goes to Hacienda for the food, but it's dependable and consistent. Milagro's is more flavorful and interesting and El Indio's is cheaper. But for pitchers of margaritas with a group, Hacienda does the job in a colorful setting, just as it has for decades.
