Minority Numbers Jump; Racial Diversity Stumbles

New census numbers reveal a boost in the number of multiracial, Asian, and Hispanic or Latino residents living in Kirkwood and Webster Groves.

Kirkwood and Webster Groves have substantially more multiracial residents living in the predominantly white communities compared to a decade ago, according to 2010 census data released Thursday. The number of residents who identify themselves as belonging to two or more races grew by about 67 percent in Kirkwood and by about 41 percent in Webster Groves, from 2000 to 2010. The growth mimics a County wide increase of multiracial residents by 41 percent. Additionally, both cities gained a significant number of Asian, and Hispanic or Latino residents.
