The tweet came down Thursday from House Majority Leader U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va): "The House will not adjourn the 112th Congress until a credible solution to the fiscal cliff has been announced." In a few weeks, Ann Wagner will be sworn in as the next U.S. Representative for Missouri's 2nd district, following her November victory over Democrat Glenn Koenen. Glenn Koenen Issues Statement On Defeat In U.S. House Race
The Oakville Democrat says he "will not quietly disappear into the fog," after loss to Ann Wagner.
The following statement was distributed via email Wednesday morning from the Glenn Koenen campaign for Congress: I want to thank all of you for the help you gave me and support you gave my campaign. You were inspirational and helped keep me committed to the fight. The election result in the 2nd Congressional District did not come out the way that I – and you – wanted. The mostly official tally shows Ann Wagner with 235,607 votes to my 145,257, giving her a 23% margin of victory. The good news is that my cost per vote was about 36¢ to her $12.00. Elections 2012 Results: Ann Wagner Takes Missouri's Congressional District 2
The GOP candidate said District 2 needs some "tough love" and she's ready to deliver.
Republican candidate Ann Wagner of Ballwin became Missouri's Congressional District 2 post Tuesday evening, declaring victory just after 10 p.m. at the Hilton Frontenac. Wagner defeated opponents Glenn Koenen (D-Oakville), Bill Slantz (Libertarian-St. Charles) and Anatol Zorikova (Constitution Party-St. Charles) for the seat held by GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin. As of 11:40 p.m., unofficial results on the Missouri Secretary of State website report Wagner had a 60.1 percent lead over Koenen's 37.1 percent with 75 percent of precincts reporting. In Hubbub Over Akin and the Senate Race, Ann Wagner's Silence Is Deafening
Speculation has popped up that Ballwin's Wagner, the GOP candidate for Akin's current U.S. House seat, could swap places with Akin on the ballot.
Ballwin's Ann Wagner, the GOP candidate running to replace Todd Akin in Missouri's second congressional district, is in the news as a possible replacement for Akin for U.S. Senate. The speculation comes in the wake of Akin's Sunday comments involving "legitimate rape" and the ability of a woman to shut down a pregnancy. News outlets and pundits are speculating that even though Tuesday's 5 p.m. deadline has passed for Akin to drop out of the race, he and Wagner could potentially switch ballot positions in the November election. Congressional candidate Ann Wagner hopes to turn Missouri "firecracker red."
The top of the Missouri Republican ticket came to town Wednesday, holding a rally at its St. Louis Victory headquarters in Valley Park. Ann Wagner, a candidate for Congress in the 2nd District acted as the hostess for the rally, introducing the speakers and vowing to turn Missouri into a "firecracker red" state following November's elections. In the parlance of politics, Democratic-leaning states are blue, Republican states are red.
