News Near By: Tina Meier Speaks to Ladue High Students in an Effort to Save Another Life

Her daughter Megan died at age 13; a victim of cyber bullying.

Tina Meier, a 42-year-old housewife from O’Fallon, MO in St. Charles County spoke to half of the student body at Ladue Horton Watkins High School this past Friday. Because Ladue has 1,400 students at the high school, Meier will return later this week to speak to the other half of the student body. They could not all fit into the performance center at the same time. Meier is on a crusade. She heads up the Megan Meier Foundation. She’s been on the Dr. Phil Show; she travels the country speaking to groups just like Ladue High students. My daughter was bullied, and even after I went to the teacher, and principle it didnt stop. The problem was the other girl would do ro say hurtful things to my daughter when no adults were around. After a few weeks of coming home upset, and her refusing to tell on the other child I had it!! Open Dialogue between Parents, Children Is Key to Internet Safety

Local expert says teaching children and teens how to safely use the Internet is just as important as teaching them how to drive.

Most people remember when their parents or older siblings taught them how to drive a car for the first time. But does anyone recall being taught how to correctly use the Internet? According to Joe Laramie, an administrator with the Missouri Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Computer Forensics Lab, learning how to safely use the Internet is just as important as learning how to drive a car. Laramie, who recently retired from the Glendale Police Department where he worked 31 years specializing in the area of child protection, addressed the topic of how to keep kids and teenagers safe in a constantly evolving technological environment at a recent meeting at Tillman Elementary School.
