A New KIND of Soap

Jean Scholtes opened up her handmade soap store in May in Old Orchard.

Jean Scholtes started making her own soap a few years ago, hoping to solve her youngest son’s eczema problem. He has very sensitive skin, so a mild, all-natural soap seemed like just the solution. The home remedy helped—and Scholtes was so pleased with her results she started making soap for the rest of her family. Soon, she was making it for friends, creating new recipes and selling her creations at craft fairs. In May she opened KIND Soap at 43 South Old Orchard Ave. After three years of soap-making, her business has grown large enough for a storefront.
