Webster Groves Police said the Lonzo Stewart was driving under the influence of PCP when he struck the center median, went across all lanes and hit a guardrail.
A St. Louis man faces an assault charge after a passenger in his car was injured in an accident on Interstate 44 near South Elm Avenue in Webster Groves. Webster Groves Police said Stewart was driving July 19 under the influence of phencyclidine, also known as PCP. According to a court document, Stewart’s car struck the center median on I-44, swerved across all lanes of traffic and hit a guardrail. The westbound Interstate 44 entrance ramp at Elm Avenue in Webster Groves will close Monday, July 30. It was originally scheduled to close July 23. However, officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) said more engineering work was needed to prepare for the ramp closure. That work has been completed. MoDOT will be replacing a retaining wall near the ramp that has deteriorated. The closure is expected to last about six weeks, weather permitting. You can access westbound I-44 by detouring to Big Bend Boulevard. There will be changeable message boards alerting motorists of the detour. MoDOT crews will be narrowing lanes on I-270 between Manchester Road and I-44. They'll also be doing maintenance work throughout the area in the next week.
Lanes narrowing on I-270 Missouri Department of Transportation crews have begun narrowing lanes on northbound and southbound Interstate 270 between Manchester Road and Interstate 44. Over the next week, motorists will see various night lane closures in this area for asphalt paving operations. The work is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and is part of a two-year widening project on I-270. Painting, patching and striping Crews will be painting bridges, patching potholes and striping roads throughout the region next week. Motorists are reminded to slow down when approaching work zones or moving operations on the roadways. Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

Plan on a little extra time to get where you're going if you use the Murdoch Avenue Bridge in Webster Groves or travel in areas around it. Beginning Monday, April 23, the bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad between Interstate 44 and Big Bend Boulevard will close. The closure also includes the ramp onto westbound I-44 from Murdoch Avenue. The bridge is being replaced because it is functionally obsolete and structurally deficient, Webster Groves officials say. A University City man is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon during a dispute in a car. Ellis McMurtry, of the 7800 block of Blackberry Ave. in University City, was allegedly arguing with the victim while driving on Interstate 44 near Laclede Station Road in Webster Groves on Wednesday. McMurtry, 68, then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, according to a Webster Groves Police Department report. Bond was set at $10,000.
