Webster Groves artist Benjamin Guffee paints nature. Oil paints are his medium of choice, and modern impressionism his genre. The walls of his Maplewood studio are lined with paintings of trees, earth and water—complex forms in which he sees a simple beauty. "I think there's a peacefulness that comes from it, a sense of contentment that is really lacking in the world," he said. "It's kind of opposite of the grind and materialism and always looking for the next thing." Guffee is a transplant to Webster Groves—he moved here about five years ago to marry his wife Jill and be closer to her family, who are natives of the area.
