Webster Groves senior soccer player Tomas Gomez takes home Missouri Goalkeeper of the Year award as he prepares for a college career at Georgetown University.
Not often considered an offensive threat, soccer goaltenders generally earn their reputations by keeping balls out of the net. While Webster Groves High School senior goalie Tomas Gomez demonstrated his defensive competency with a .75 goals against average and was named last week as the top goaltender of the year in Missouri, he could sometimes be found scoring goals when his team needed a little extra punch up top. “Tomas is such a good athlete we tried to get him out there as a field player when we could, in fact his sophomore year he split time as a goalie and a striker and tied for the lead in goals on the team,” recalled Webster High School soccer coach Tim Cashel.
