Webster Groves Rotarian Katy Fox has been recognized by President Obama and ShelterBox USA with a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her efforts during 2011 to provide shelter, warmth and dignity for survivors of natural and other disasters worldwide. Dick Sant, a Webster Groves Rotarian, has been honored by President Barack Obama and ShelterBox USA with a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. As news of the Japan earthquake and tsunami unfolded last year, many watched the television wishing they could make a difference. Sant knew that ShelterBox, an international disaster relief charity, would be on the scene delivering its iconic green box, which contains a family tent, a water purification system, a cook set and stove along with other lifesaving supplies. Through Sant’s efforts in raising awareness and funds for ShelterBox, the organization was able to provide more than 17,600 ShelterBoxes to families throughout the world in 2011. A memorial service for the long-time Webster Groves Rotary Club member is scheduled for Dec. 17.
Carl "Bud" Holekamp, Jr., is being remembered as a true inspiration to others with his many years of service to the community—most notably, more than six decades as a member of the Webster Groves Rotary Club. Mr. Holekamp, of Webster Groves, died Dec. 2. He was 90. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Parkway United Church of Christ, which is located at 2841 N. Ballas Rd. Mr. Holekamp served as a member of the rotary club for 63 years. He is credited with 51 years of perfect meeting attendance.
