Update: Solar Panel Cause of Fire at Webster Groves High School

The fire Saturday afternoon was quickly contained. Classes will meet Monday.

Updated: May 18 at 5:30 p.m. A solar panel is believed to be the cause of a fire Saturday afternoon at Webster Groves High School, according to reports from Patch partners, FOX 2. The Webster Groves School District's Facebook page said there was some water damage to classrooms, but that classes will still meet Monday. No injuries or further damage were reported. Original story: The Webster Groves Fire Department said there is a "working fire" at Webster Groves High School Saturday afternoon. Four Webster Groves' Students Among 12 Final Acts in St. Louis Teen Talent Competition

The 3rd Annual 2013 St. Louis Teen Talent Competition will be April 12 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Tickets are required but free, and are available on first-come, first-served basis.

Two of the dozen final acts in this year's annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition hail from Webster Groves. The two, local duos are all Webster Groves High School students: They and 10 other acts were judged, and chosen from 37 semi-finalists on March 2. A total of 155 acts started in the competition in February. The 12 finalists will compete on Friday, April 12, at 8 p.m. at The Fabulous Fox Theatre. The final event is a Broadway-style show that is free, and open to the public. Webster Groves Boys Varsity Basketball 'Harlem Shakes' It Up

The team posted a video on YouTube last week. Have you seen it or any other local renditions of the "Harlem Shake"?

The Webster Groves High School Varsity Boys Basketball team uploaded their version of the "Harlem Shake" on YouTube last week. What is the "Harlem Shake," you ask? Wikipedia describes the latest Internet video fad as as a 30-second video that starts with one person dancing to the "Harlem Shake" song by Baauer for about 15 seconds. Then, a larger group joins in, dancing crazily and spicing it up with props or costumes. Rishon Loper (@TheRealBigLope on Twitter) has already gotten 10 retweets and 13 favorites for the video as of Thursday afternoon, making it a "Top Tweet" on the social media platform in the Webster Groves area. Webster Groves Teens Vie for Spot on Fox Theatre Stage

This year's St. Louis Teen Talent Competition starts Saturday. A total of 155 acts registered this year, which is up from 118 in 2012. See which local teen talents are participating.

The 3rd Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition gets under way Feb. 9-10 when 155 high school students take their acts onstage in the preliminary round of a competition sponsored by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. "We are pleased to have added more prizes and scholarship awards for our participating students,” stated Mary Strauss, president of Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation (FPACF) board of directors in a news release. “We hope all St. Louisans will come out and support our talented teens for the final competition on April 12 at the Fabulous Fox. Webster Groves Teacher Named Peabody Energy Leader in Education

Julie Burchett of Webster Groves High School was surprised with the award this week.

Webster Groves High School Teacher Julie Burchett was named a Peabody Energy Leader in Education for 2012-2013. The recognition included a $1,000 prize when she was surprised with the award last Tuesday. Burchett is a social studies teacher as well as the coordinator of non-traditional and experiential learning at WGHS. The press release from Peabody said Burchett was involved with the creation of the Statesmen Center, "a program that helps students in at-risk situations accomplish their goals," and Experiential Learning Center, "which provides all students with means to apply their classroom education to real-world experiences." Webster Groves High Starts Off Prepcasts Elite Girls Basketball Shootout Saturday

The Lady Statesmen will play Dexter High in the 10-team shootout this weekend.
